National Hire a Veteran Day: How Being Hired Changed This Veterans Life.
National Hire a Veteran Day is observed every year on July 25th. Founded by Marine Corps Veteran Dan Caporale, Hire A Veteran Day is meant as a call to action for those who hire and those who apply.1 At JDog, we support Military Veterans through job opportunities and encourage franchisees to employ other Veterans with the goal of reducing the Veteran unemployment rate to below 1%. One of those franchisees is Catherine Peters, owner of JDog Junk Removal & Hauling Green Bay, Fox Valley, and Madison. Catherine found Marine Corps Veteran Bobby Krohn back in May of 2020. This is how being hired by Catherine changed his life.
“Last year Catherine reached out to me through the Indeed hiring platform. I remember hearing about JDog Junk Removal and Hauling about two years prior but never gave it a chance because the job I had at that time, I was making boat loads of money. When Catherine reached out to me, I was going through a really hard time at the job I was working. I was extremely depressed and was on the verge of ending it all. I was not happy and I felt like I wasn’t doing anything good with my life. I figured why not talk to Catherine and see what comes of it. She told me how JDog was owned and operated by Veterans and told me the story of Jerry Flanagan [Co-Founder and CEO of JDog Brands] and where he was several years prior to where he is now. I was truly impressed and inspired by his story. I knew I had a second chance. I became very excited about JDog when I met with Catherine to discuss this opportunity she had for me. After 20 minutes, I knew this is what I wanted to do.”
“I started on June 1st, 2020 and I’ve never looked back. Me and Catherine were working the road together and I was having a lot of fun. Picking big things up and putting them down. We were meeting new customers everyday and I felt human again. We were helping everyday-community members who cared about Veterans and would only hire Veterans to reclaim their much needed space in their homes.”
“Hours turned into days, days into weeks and weeks turned into months. I was having so much fun, I didn’t realize where the time went. I felt amazing. I was happy again. I was complete and felt like I was doing something good in my life. It felt like I was serving again. Where I was before I started working at JDog Junk Removal and Hauling to where I am now, Catherine saved my life. I’m currently the General Manager for our Wisconsin Franchise. Catherine treats us all like family. She has taught me so much about caring for people, (more than I did before the job) trust, and having faith again.”
“As a Marine Corps Veteran I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the opportunity that Catherine gave me and continues to give to me. As a General Manager for this wonderful franchise, I have been able to hire another Marine Corps Veteran and have been able to give him an opportunity and he absolutely loves this job.”
“Hiring Veterans in our communities does so much more for us than just giving us a paycheck. It gives us an opportunity to grow as a human again. When we are down and feel lost, hiring Veterans brings us back. Yes, it may take time, but giving us the chance and taking the time to understand our needs is going to be better in the long run. We don’t want to feel like we are just a number. I’m not asking for companies to treat us differently, but understanding and having compassion for Veterans amounts to more with us. All it takes is to ask us.”
We are always looking for motivated Military Veterans to join the JDog team. If you or someone you know would like to join our team committed to Respect, Integrity, and Trust, apply today: https://www.jdogbrands.com/about/careers/
